Pennsylvania Lakes - click for indexLocated in Beaver County, Upper and Lower Hereford Manor Lakes are located on Doe Run, a tributary of Conoquenessing Creek, Franklin Township. The dams appear to have been constructed in conjunction with strip mining operations prior to 1958. The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, acting by and through the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, acquired this property in 1973. The drainage area above the lower dam is 1.38 square miles and the normal pool covers 45 acres. The height of the dam is 37 feet with a length of 1000 feet.

The Fish and Boat Commission drew down Upper Hereford Manor Lake in spring 2003. The goal was to draw down this 23-acre lake by 15 to 18 feet to provide storage capacity to protect the lower dam and to alleviate pressure on the upper embankment. The drawn down lake was reopened to public fishing on June 14, 2003.

FISHING

Lower Hereford is managed as a Big Bass Lake and is part of the Early Season Trout-Stocked Waters program. Statewide regulations for Commonwealth Inland Waters apply for all other species of fish. Shore fishing is permitted.

BOATING

Boating at Lower Hereford Manor Lake is limited to boats powered by electric motors and unpowered boats. The primary type of boats used on the lake are shallow-draft, lightweight fishing boats, canoes and inflatables. A surfaced launch ramp is available and associated parking facilities.

Un-powered boats may be moored at the lake in accordance with Commission property regulations. To be used at the lake, boats must be registered or have a valid launch permit (permits are issued by the Commission or PA Dept. of Conservation and Natural Resources).
