Commission Extends Sympathy to Family of Former Commissioner Lacy
September 28, 2012
HARRISBURG, Pa. – The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) today extended its sympathy to the family of former Commissioner Donald N. Lacy, who passed away Sept. 26. He was 85.

“On behalf of the Board of Commissioners and staff, I extend condolences to Commissioner Lacy’s family,” said PFBC Executive Director John Arway. “Don was passionate about conservation and his personal involvement with many organizations positively influenced his role as a Commissioner. He helped lead on many initiatives and we are all saddened by his passing.”

An avid outdoorsman and conservationist, Commissioner Lacy was appointed to a 10-year term to the Board of Commissioners by Gov. Robert Casey in November 1992. He served District 8 (covering Berks, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Lehigh, Montgomery, Northampton, Philadelphia, and Schuylkill Counties) from 1992-2002. He served as Chairman of the Commission's Education and Information Committee and held terms as the Commission's President and Vice President.

Commissioner Lacy served as President of the Berks County Chapter of the Izaak Walter League; was a member of the Berks County Federation of Sportsmen's Club; and Associate Director of the Berks County Conservation District. He was a member of the Leesport Gun Club and a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.

In 1989, Commissioner Lacy was honored as the Outstanding Conservationist of the Year by the Pennsylvania Association of Conservation Districts, and was awarded a citation of his achievements by the Pennsylvania State Senate. Also in 1989, Gov. Casey presented him with the "Take Pride in Pennsylvania" award for outstanding contributions to the stewardship of Pennsylvania public lands.
