March 14, 2012

HARRISBURG, Pa. – Anglers in northwestern Pennsylvania still have plenty of opportunities to catch a variety of trout at Erie County’s Fairview gravel pit before the popular fishing spot is briefly closed to fishing at the end of the month.

“Since the beginning of the month, the 3 C.U. Trout Association has been stocking the Fairview gravel pit with brown, rainbow, and golden rainbow trout from their local nurseries,” said Earl Myers, manager of the cooperative nursery unit at the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC). “To date, approximately 10,125 brown, 125 rainbow, and 100 golden rainbow trout have been stocked at the site.”

The popular fishing spot is part of the PFBC’s early season trout-stocked waters program and is open to public fishing from March 1 through March 31. During this time, the minimum size is 7 inches and the daily creel limit is three combined species.

The gravel pit will be open again to the public at 8 a.m. on Saturday, April 14, which is the regular statewide opening day for trout.

The 3 C.U. Trout Association is a member of the PFBC’s Cooperative Nursery Program and well recognized in the community for their contribution to both the Lake Erie steelhead and near shore brown trout fisheries programs.
