Pennsylvania is Tops in Registrants for

HARRISBURG, Pa. – Cabela’s has announced that Pennsylvania anglers were the top state registrants in its second year of the national fish-tagging, prize-winning fishing contest. At 10,000 contest registrants, the Commonwealth again ranks number one. The contest started on Saturday, May 5, and continued through July 8.

As the saying goes, “You’ve got to play to win.” Well, those that wanted to participate in the contest only needed to pre-register, buy a fishing license and grab a rod and reel to have a chance at winning the grand prize of $2 million, multiple cash prizes, bass boats and other prizes. While purchasing a fishing license guarantees you a gateway into the contest, the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) underscores that regardless of the contest, a Pennsylvania fishing license is always a winner. In fact, it affords anglers the opportunity to unlock a year's worth of fishing opportunities in all the Commonwealth's fishing waters.

Of the 12 Pennsylvania fishing waters that contained tagged fish this year, here’s the listing of the waters where tagged fish were caught for prizes, with how many and what species:

  • Foster Joseph Sayers Lake – 2 largemouth bass
  • Lake Arthur – 2 largemouth bass, 2 walleye
  • Lake Luxembourg – 1 largemouth bass
  • Lake Nockamixon – 1 largemouth bass
  • Lake Wallenpaupack – 1 largemouth bass
  • Pine Creek – 2 rainbow trout
  • Presque Isle Bay – 1 largemouth bass
  • Raystown Lake – 1 walleye

To see the national listing of winners, visit Cabela’s website at http://cabelasfishformillions.com/winners. Cabela’s has announced that the contest will continue for a third year for 2013, and the PFBC will once again be the state partner.

As PFBC Executive Director John Arway states, "The partnership that we have formed with Cabela's with this contest has been exciting for us and the anglers of our Commonwealth. The interest shows that Pennsylvania continues to be one of the nation's top fishing states, and we look forward to continuing the contest next year."
