|Somerset, PA -- Fisheries biologists from the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission invite you to a public demonstration of fish sampling methods and fish management strategies at Wilmore Dam near the town of Portage, Cambria County, on Thursday, May 12, at 6 p.m.
The demonstration will take place near the boat launch near the dam at the south end of the lake. Biologists will show the public various fish species caught at the lake through trap netting, hoop netting, and flat bottom boat electrofishing. They will also present life history and fish management information for some popular fish species. The event will be a good opportunity to learn about the types and sizes of fish that inhabit the water body. This event will be of interest to anglers and non-anglers alike. Youngsters will be provided a front row view.
Wilmore Dam is located near the towns of Portage and Wilmore in Cambria County. To reach the dam, head north on PA 160 from PA 53. Then turn right on Willow Beach Rd. Make the first right at the intersection with Law Street. The Wilmore Dam boat launch and parking area is located at the end of Law Street.
