| Harrisburg, PA, -- Sport fishing, boating and aquatic resource education programs received a boost today with the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) awarding educational grants totaling more than $87,000. Twenty-three organizations will receive Education Grants from the PFBC to develop or expand programs that teach fishing and boating skills or educate participants about waterways and the organisms that live within them. Executive Director John Arway said of the grants: “I am looking forward to seeing the results of our education efforts translating into increased recruitment of new anglers and boaters. Investments such as this should provide important dividends in the future. I appreciate the Board’s continued support for this program.”
Since June 2006, the Commission received more than 161 applications for the grants, requesting nearly $1 million. With the grants announced today, the PFBC has provided $300,000 to 75 organizations through the Education Grant Program. An announcement will be made later this fall regarding the next round of grants.
