Harrisburg, PA — The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission will host an open house – “A Day at the Hatchery” – Saturday, April 5, 2008, from 12-4 p.m. at the Linesville State Fish Hatchery on the shores of Pymatuning Lake in Crawford County.

Visitors are invited to observe methods used in sorting fish from trap nets, taking and fertilizing walleye eggs, determining the age of a fish, and other interesting educational demonstrations. Kids and adults alike can also take advantage of the kids casting area, as well as stations to learn how to tie on your own hook; make your own fish print T-shirts ($3.00); fish filleting; cooking demonstrations by a local chef; live reptile and amphibian presentations and displays; lake habitat models; a boating safety information tent; hands-on art activities; fly tying and fly casting; a 10,000-gallon viewing tank full of native fish species and so much more! Fishing licenses, posters, patches and books will be available for purchase as well.

As you can see, there’s something for everyone, so follow the crowd and join the Fish and Boat Commission for the afternoon. Make sure to fill out the survey at the end of your visit for a chance to win a fishing rod and reel. A shuttle service will be provided from nearby parking areas to the visitor center and back.
