Dustin Fleck, from Warriors Mark, holding a 32 inch channel catfish weighing 11 pounds 14 ounces.  Dustin caught this fish at Sayers Lake while using a balsa boogie crank bait that he was using for bass at the time. He was able to land this great catfish and it is certainly one of the nicest catfish caught out of the lake this year.

Pictured is a red-breasted piranha, pulled from the Mahantango Creek, near Si-nora campground.  It was the only Piranha caught and most likely the result of someone releasing the fish once held as a pet.  It is illegal to introduce nonnative species to Pennsylvania waters.  Fortunately, our cold winters will spell the end for most tropical fish such as this Piranha.

Nine-year old James Krehling had a good day fishing with dad Robert recently. James was able to catch his first fish along with many more at a local pond. And he already has a story about the big one that got away, the first of many to come no doubt.

Paddleboards – With the increasing popularity of paddleboards as a waterborne exercise activity, users are reminded as per a 7/20/2011 PFBC press release; “Paddleboards are considered boats as defined by the USCG if they are used outside the narrow limits of a swimming, surfing or bathing area. As such, they are subject to regulations administered by the USCG and the PA Fish & Boat Commission, including life jacket, sound producing device and navigation light requirements.”

On June 20, 2012, the Fish and Boat Commission and DCNR along with Cub and Boy Scouts built and placed porcupine cribs into Raccoon Lake.  Members of Boy Scout Troop 425 and Webelos from Cub Scout Pack 426 participated as part of a habitat project.  The scouts did a great job and made easy work of the 10 porcupine cribs.  It was a team effort and the kids learned valuable teambuilding skills working well with one another while they also learned about fish habitat and the fish food chain.  Overall, the project was a great success and everyone had an enjoyable afternoon.
