North Branch Susquehanna River

Young-of-the-Year Walleye

Area 4 biologists completed our annual assessment of walleye reproduction in the North Branch Susquehanna River during the week of October 14, 2008. This years electrofishing catch rate of young-of-the-year walleye was 98.9 per hour, which was above the 14 year average of 65.9 per hour. The 2005 and 2007 walleye year classes were also above average. Assuming normal survival rates, these strong year classes will provide excellent fishing for legal size walleye in the coming years.
