Night Electrofishing

Largemouth bass anglers at the 450 acre Shawnee Lake in Bedford County’s Shawnee State Park can expect quality fishing in 2003. Southcentral Fisheries Management biologists in a night electrofishing evaluation in late May 2003 found a healthy largemouth population with a night electrofishing catch of 71 largemouth bass ranging in length from 6 inches to 20 inches. The total catch rate was over 55 bass per electrofishing hour. Seventy-nine percent of the largemouth exceeded the statewide legal length of 12 inches and 50% of the catch exceeded the Shawnee Lake Big Bass regulated legal length of 15 inches.
