Night Electrofishing

Largemouth bass anglers at the 88 acre Holman Lake in Perry County’s Little Buffalo State Park can expect good catches of bass larger than 12 inches in 2003. Southcentral Fisheries Management biologists in a night electrofishing evaluation in late May 2003 found an abundant largemouth population with a night electrofishing catch of 292 largemouth bass ranging in length from 4 inches to 20 inches. The total catch rate was over 272 bass per electrofishing hour. Twenty-four percent of the largemouth exceeded the state wide legal length of 12 inches. Anglers can expect one of the highest catch rates of bass between 12 and 15 inches of any Southcentral lake. However, the high total numbers of largemouth, higher than any other Southcentral lake, may have slowed growth rates. Less than 1% of the catch exceeded the Holman Lake Big Bass regulated legal length of 15 inches.
