Stevens Lake

Area 4 biologists sampled the largemouth bass population in Stevens Lake on the night of May 16, 2002. We captured 52 bass in 89 minutes of electrofishing for a catch rate of 35 bass/hour. Our catch rate was somewhat low, partly because of muddy water, but the fish were large. About 17% of the bass we caught exceeded the 15 inch minimum size limit. The largest, held below by fisheries biologist aide Joe Chavez, was 22 inches long and weighed 5.9 pounds.
