BIOLOGIST REPORT
Falls Twp. Community Lake
Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) southeast Fisheries Management staff has conducted an initial survey of the new Falls Township Community Lake located in Falls Township, Bucks County. During this survey PFBC biologists collected a variety of resident fish species. The fish species with the greatest potential to provide recreational angling opportunities included largemouth bass, bluegill, black and white crappie, white catfish, and common carp. Additional species included pumpkinseed and green sunfish, gizzard shad, white perch, banded killifish, American eel, and goldfish. In general the fish populations were below average in abundance and lengths of individual fish when compared to other lakes located in southeast Pennsylvania. This was expected as Falls Township Community Lake was a newly acquired lake and a formal fisheries management program was not in place.
During the survey 79 largemouth bass were collected between 2 and 19 inches with only 6 exceeding the minimum length limit of 12 inches. A combined total of 631 black and white crappie were collected between 2 and 12 inches long with only 26 being 9 inches long or longer. Bluegill were collected in fair numbers, however few quality length bluegill (7 inches) were collected. Twenty-four white catfish were also collected ranging from 8 to 16 inches in length.

Detailed analysis of the survey results will occur during the winter and early spring of 2000-2001 when a formal fisheries management plan for the lake will be prepared. With the continued natural development of the resident fish populations and the implementation of a carefully designed fish stocking program Falls Township Community Lake should provide quality recreational angling opportunities in the future.
