EDUCATOR & TEACHER WORKSHOPS
spacer
The Commission offers training workshops on amphibians and reptiles, fish and aquatic resources. Workshop length varies from 8 to 15 hours, depending on the subject and curriculum provided. Commission-sponsored workshops and materials provided are designed for use by classroom educators. However, the materials can easily be adapted to use with any youth group. Curriculum materials and training provided will assist educators in teaching content areas in the Ecology and Environment standards. Workshops are designed to provide educators with an introduction to the background content as well as exposure to learning activities that teach that content. As an approved Act 48 provider, the Commission can provide professional development hours for attendance.

The Commission uses these curriculum & activity guides:

Project Aquatic Wild Project WILD

Project WILD, www.projectwild.org, is a conservation education program. It is one of the most widely-used programs. The Commission is the state sponsor for WILD Aquatic. The Project WILD Aquatic K-12 Curriculum and Activity Guide emphasize aquatic wildlife and aquatic ecosystems. Because these activities are designed for integration into existing courses of study, instructors may use one or many Project WILD Aquatic activities or the entire set of activities may serve quite effectively as the basis for a course of study.

Commission Project Aquatic WILD workshops are a minimum of 8 hours. Participants receive the activity guide and PFBC publications and education resources. Training includes the use of the guide and aquatic ecology background information.

PENNSYLVANIA AMPHIBIANS & REPTILES EDUCATOR WORKSHOP
Participants in these 10-15 hour workshops will receive a copy of the new curriculum guide: Pennsylvania Amphibians and Reptiles. The Amphibians and Reptile Curriculum guide is a multi-disciplinary curriculum designed for classroom educators, K – 12. The guide is divided into four units: Awareness (basic biology), Identification, Habitat, and Responsible Human Action. Participants will also get an introduction to the biology, ecology and identification of PA's herps.
