|Meadville, PA – The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission has always encouraged boaters to check weather conditions before planning to go boating—especially on Lake Erie. Now, thanks to a new buoy it’s easier to do.
The Regional Science Consortium in Erie received a grant from the Great Lakes Observing Systems (GLOS) for a Weather, Water, & Wave Buoy System. This system was deployed five miles off the mainland in 50 feet of water and collects weather, water, and wave data.
The buoy is also outfitted with a video camera. Video clips of current Lake Erie conditions are collected and sent to the Regional Science Consortium website every hour. Click on that website at www.PaLakeErieBuoy.com and check out all the different types of information available to boaters and anglers.
